Wilma Butler, 74, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio after a brief illness. Born September 3, 1937 in Enterprise, W. Va., she was a daughter of the late Roy and Sara “Susie” (Sprouse) Tichenor.
A 1956 graduate of Lumberport High School of West Virginia, Wilma attended college before her marriage to Richard L. Butler on July 27, 1957. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who also worked for Twin City Hospital in Dennison for a time, before becoming a customer service agent for Federal Express until her retirement in 1998. She was Methodist by faith and loved playing bridge, golfing and bowling in her spare time.
Wilma is survived by a son, Richard L. “Rick” Butler, Jr. and his wife, Kay, of Dennison; four grandchildren, Jessica Lowdermilk and her husband, Larry, of New Philadelphia, Jennifer Freeland and her husband, Steve, of Port Washington, and Jordan and Jared Butler of Dennison; four great-grandchildren, Kaylynn, Tayelor and Hayden Freeland, and Allie, Ashley, and Tyler Lowdermilk; a sister, Genevieve Arnett and her husband, Wilbur Lee, of Fairmont, W. Va.; a brother, Clarence Tichenor and his wife, Edna “Polly”, of Canton; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Donald and June Butler, Ronnie and Gloria Butler, and Harry “Bill” and Susan Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews. The youngest of twelve children, Wilma was preceded in death by nine siblings, Gladys Gibson, Florence “Dolly” Harper, Dorothy Booth, and Glenn, Leroy, Lester, Walter (her twin), John and Mary Tichenor, in addition to her parents and husband, Dick, who died on December 28, 1982.
Services for Wilma, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. She will later be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with her beloved husband. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Cancer Society and the American Lung Association of Ohio.
