William T. McGinnis, 71, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Aultman Hospital in Canton, after a brief illness. Born February 17, 1945 in Dennison, he was the son of the late William S. and Theo J. (Schwab) McGinnis and grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. L. I. McGinnis, Hazel Frankland and Thomas Schwab. He is survived by his sister, Ellen L. McGinnis of Uhrichsville, and a host of dear friends and neighbors.
After his graduation from Uhrichsville High School in 1963, Bill began his career with Republic Steel in Massillon which spanned over 30 years. He also served as an M.P. with the Army Reserves from the mid-60s until his honorable discharge in 1971. He was a lifelong member of Uhrichsville Presbyterian Church.
Bill was very active in his community as the second eldest member of the Clayland Lions by whom he was honored with the Melvin Jones Award after over 40 years of service. He was a 32nd degree Mason with Mystic Tie F. & A. M. Lodge #194, and was also a member of the American Italian Club in Dennison, the Uhrichsville Elks Lodge #424, Tuscarawas V.F.W. Post #7943, and Dennison Eagles Aerie #582. He was an avid golfer and loved going on fishing trips with his friends.
Services for Bill, officiated by Pastor Florence McNutt, will be held at 11am on Friday, July 22, 2016, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8pm on Thursday in the funeral home, concluding with a 7:30pm Lions memorial service and a 7:45pm Masonic memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to Uhrichsville Presbyterian Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
