William E. Ross

December 30, 1925 — April 2, 2011

William E. Ross, age 85, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away Saturday evening, April 2, 2011 at Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio, with his family by his side, after a brief illness. He was born December 30, 1925 in Dennison to the late Raymond SinClair Ross and Sarah Ellen “Sadie” (Fannon) Ross McNealy.
On June 7, 1952, he married his wife, Ruth C. (Patterson) Ross, who survives him at their home.

A lifelong resident of the Twin City area, with the exception of the time while he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, Bill started his working life with employment at a number of the area’s clay companies. His main career, though, was with the railroad, working for Nickle Plate and then the N & W Railroads in Brewster for over thirty years, until his retirement in the mid 1980’s. He enjoyed collecting toy trains and fishing. He loved to travel and was never content to just sit unless he was outside watching the cars and trains go by. He loved to decorate the house inside and out for the holidays for his family to enjoy. He also loved going to auctions and the harness races at the county fair, as well as drives out to Amish country. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his children, John (Joette) Ross of Uhrichsville, Sheila Preciado of Mt. Pleasant, N.C., Dorothy Jean (Gene) Caswell of Uhrichsville, and William Jay Ross of Dennison; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. His only surviving sibling is Betty Winnett of Cambridge. He was preceded in death by brothers, Gilbert and Jack; sisters, Edith and Mary Jane; and several infant siblings, including his twin.

Services for Bill, officiated by Rev. Harry Milligan, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
