William S. Hunter

William Silas Hunter, 71, of Dennison, Ohio, was called to the more immediate presence of the Lord on Friday, January 9, 2026, from the Ohio’s Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, Ohio, after giving his declining health the best fight he could. Born July 11, 1954 in Dover, Ohio, he was a son of the late Lewis Calvin and Jane E. (Hamilton) Hunter.

A lifelong Tuscarawas County resident, Bill was employed by Shenango for many years before working at Barmet Aluminum Recycling in Uhrichsville until an injury forced his early retirement. He will be remembered as a strong, proud, hardworking man who had always made taking care of his family his highest priority. That was also extended to his dear canine companions – Tanner and Holly – the care of whom became his sense of purpose after the loss of his wife.

Bill was a member of First Moravian Church of Dover who enjoyed a myriad of activities with his friends and family. In his younger years, he was a motorcycle enthusiast who loved spending time riding whenever he got the chance. He was also a music lover, especially of classic country music and his favorite artist, Elvis. Bill would happily go fishing with anyone he could find to go with him, be it family or friends. He was an avid NASCAR fan, as well, whether watching on television or attending races with his sons and sons-in-law. His family will remember his great sense of humor and all the times he spent joking with his grandchildren.

On March 2, 1973, Bill married the former Yvonne Marie Schilling with whom he enjoyed 49 years of loving marriage until her passing on March 17, 2022 and with whom he has now been joyfully reunited. They are survived by their children, Kimberly (William) Hayes, Stacy (Karie) Hunter, Matthew (Stacey) Hunter, and Erin (Aaron) Couts; 13 grandchildren, Allie, Zach, Emma, Tate, Kourtney, Madison, Eryka, Jaxson, Katelyn, Nathan, Natalie, Lauren, and Grant; and great-grandchildren, Jackson and Stella. Bill is also survived by his sisters, Linda Cihon and Sheila Underwood; brother, Bud Hunter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill’s family extend their sincere thanks to all of the staff at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover and Ohio’s Hospice for their kindness, support, and outstanding care that they provided during his final illness.

According to Bill’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public service. His family will celebrate his life privately on a future date.
