William Eugene "Hoagie" Hoagland

August 3, 1928 — August 20, 2008

William E. “Hoagie” Hoagland, 80, a resident of Schoenbrunn Healthcare at New Philadelphia, O. for the past several years, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Union Hospital in Dover, O., following a lengthy illness. Born in Dennison, O. on August 3, 1928, he was the son of the late Earl Linton and Earleen Mae (McCombs) Hoagland.

Hoagie’s surviving family includes his son, William “Mike” Hoagland and his wife, Beth, of Bolivar; daughters, Mrs. David (Diana) Stevens, Mrs. Jack (Lucinda “Cindy”) Swinderman and Connie Gilmore, all of New Philadelphia; ten grandchildren, Michelle Limming, Michael Hoagland, Chris Hoagland, and Jennifer Hoagland, all of Kansas, Angela (Dan) Armstrong of Canal Winchester, Bill Stevens of New Philadelphia, Troy (Courtney) Septer of New Philadelphia, Tiffiny (Steve) Gibb of Dover, First Class Petty Officer Donald J. (Brie) Gilmore of TX, and Staff Sergeant Christopher Gilmore of GA; and thirteen great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys (Conway) Hoagland.

Hoagie served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a Life Member of New Philadelphia V.F.W. #1445.

After spending his younger years as a resident of Tuscarawas County, Hoagie resided in Florida for over thirty years where he was employed by Occidental Chemical Corporation. Locally, he had also been employed by Tusco Grocers as a driver for several years.

Services for Hoagie, officiated by Rev. Harry Milligan, will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. In keeping with his wishes, interment will follow at a later date in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery of Lake City, Florida beside his late wife.
