William Edison “Bill” Stevens, 40, of New Philadelphia, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 24, 2015, at Aultman Hospital in Canton. Born April 26, 1974 in Dover, he was a son of David L. Stevens of New Philadelphia and the late Diana Jean (Hoagland) Stevens.
After his graduation from New Philadelphia High School in 1992, Bill attended Kent State University’s Tuscarawas Branch. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country from 1993 to 1997, including a duty as a member of the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. He was a Life Member of AmVets Post #1338.
Bill is survived by his father, David, with whom he had resided; sister, Angela (Daniel) Armstrong of Canal Winchester; nieces, Rylee, Reagan, and Raquel Armstrong of Canal Winchester; maternal grandmother, Oveda Harding of Dover; aunts and uncles, Cindy Septer, Connie Gilmore, William “Mike” Hoagland, Judy Williams, and Dorothy and Elmer Rine; numerous cousins; and many friends. In addition to his mother, Diana, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, William Hoagland, and paternal grandparents, Edison and Dorothy Stevens.
Services for Bill, officiated by Pastor Brian Flood, will be held at 7pm on Tuesday, April 28, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his family to help defray the cost of his final expenses.
