William E. Bonanno

William Eugene Bonanno, 87, of New Philadelphia, passed away on November 4, 2023 from medical complications resulting from a fall. Born November 21, 1935 in Dennison, he was the only child of the late Samuel Joseph and Alice Mae “Boots” (Taylor) Bonanno.

A local resident for much of his life, Bill was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison and a 1953 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1958 on the USS Coral Sea. He had a long career in production at the former Warner & Swasey Co. in New Philadelphia and retired from The Gradall Co. in 1997. After retirement, he and Shirley enjoyed many winters at their home in Winter Haven, Florida. He was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life.

On January 9, 1960, Bill married the former Shirley Jane Patterson who survives him along with their son, William E. (Debra) Bonanno, Jr., daughter, Shelly (Steve) Schumaker; grandchildren, William (Courtney) Bonanno III, Matthew Schumaker, Allison (Patrick Hilderbrand) Schumaker; and great-grandson, Otto Hilderbrand.

Father Jeff Coning will officiate Bill’s memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison where his family will receive callers from noon to 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church, 206 N. 1st St., Dennison, OH  44621.
