William Baumgardner

William Joseph “Joe” Baumgardner, 83, of Dennison, Ohio, died Monday, June 6, 2011 at Amberwood Manor in New Philadelphia, Ohio after a period of declining health. Born November 15, 1927 in Guernsey Co., Ohio, he was a son of the late Marion Dewey and Laura Opal (Hardy) Baumgardner.

A lifelong resident of the Twin City area, Joe worked in the local clay industry in his younger years. He was a longtime member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Dennison.

On May 29, 1958, Joe married the former Florence Mae Mathias who survives him. He is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Jane) Adams of Dennison; a son, Thomas Baumgardner of Dennison; a grandson, Gerald G. Adams of Dennison; brothers, Gene Baumgardner of Newcomerstown and John Baumgardner of Cadiz; sisters, Dora Lippencott, Glenadean Greenwalt and Magreatha Zimmerman of Uhrichsville and Murlene Fair of Freeport; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Ruth Baumgardner.

In keeping with Joe’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation. A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Bob James, will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, in Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Sewellsville Cemetery at a later date. Those wishing to honor Joe’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.
