Willard C. Liggett, 88, of Dennison, passed away on July 21, 2014 at his home after a period of declining health. Born July 4, 1926 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Robert Roy and Iva Hazel (Cunard) Liggett.
Willard was a graduate of Dennison High School in 1944 who devoted his life to his family and working on their farm. He was also the owner of Reed Feed Country Store and a sales representative for Mullet Coal. He enjoyed working on the farm and with his animals, and, most of all, he treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was a longtime member and former trustee of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church and a member of the Prosperity Grange, as well as serving as a past Union To wnship Trustee.
He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Autumn Reed with whom he recently celebrated 67 years of marriage; children: Richard (Anita) Liggett of Dennison, Robert (Marcia) Liggett of Bolivar, Randy Liggett of Midvale, Marilyn Sue (Duce) Carlisle of the home, and David (Joni) Liggett of Uhrichsville; grandchildren: Mathew (Ruthie), Stephanie (Jai), Brian, Brett (Jamie), Melissa (James), Stacey, Kristi, Nikki (Shawn), Christopher (Kendra), Clantz, Colt (Molly), Jennifer (Tom), and Allison (Erick); 21 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean (Donald) Watson; nieces, Karen (Bob) Wilson and Linda Simpson; and many other extended family members. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Liggett; daughter-in-law, Vicki Liggett; sister and brother-in-law, Ina Pearl and Jasper Simpson; and nephew, Robert Simpson.
Services for Willard, officiated by Pastor Brian Flood, will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, with interment following at Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice.
