Wayne Lanning

March 30, 1943 — August 5, 2011

Wayne L. Lanning, 68, of Kinston, N. Car., formerly of Uhrichsville, was called home to Heaven on Friday, August 5, 2011 from Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston after a lengthy illness. Born March 30, 1943 in Dennison, Ohio, he was a son of Helen (Garner) Lanning who had resided with him and the late Walter O. Lanning.

Wayne was a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in the class of 1961 and continued to live in the Twin City area until 1974 when he moved to Kinston where he was employed as a machinist by Wall-Lenk until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed wood working, traveling in his RV with his beloved wife, Molly, and working in his yard. He will be fondly remembered for his Christmas decorating which he looked forward to each year. As a newly born again Christian, his faith sustained him during his long stays in the hospital that he had to endure since February.

On October 2, 1988, Wayne married the former Molly Goshorn who survivies him at their home. He is also survived by his mother, Helen Lanning; three daughters, Tonya Nayler and Raquel (Blake) Boyd of Newcomerstown and Wendy Morlock of Strasburg; a brother, Glen (Donna) Lanning of La Grange, N. Car.; a sister, Donna Quinn of Kinston, N.Car.; step-children, Gary Thompson of Uhrichsville, Tanya Thompson of Minerva, Tara Bright of Uhrichsville, Karen Jo Smith of Gnadenhutten, and Raymond Van Lehn of Florida; eighteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services for Wayne, officiated by Pastor Milo Baker, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery, after which a gathering in celebration of his life will be held in the Uhrichsville Eagles. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Those wishing to honor Wayne’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Gideons International, La Grange Camp, P.O. Box 481, La Grange, NC 28551.
