Walter A. Glauser

March 20, 1930 — March 23, 2016

Walter A. Glauser, 86, of Gnadenhutten, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Riverside Manor in Newcomerstown. Born March 20, 1930 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Godfrey and Martha Elizabeth (Schwab) Glauser.

Walt was a 1950 graduate of Gnadenhutten High School before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. A decorated veteran, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Camp Stars, a Purple Heart for wounds sustained in battle, and the Combat Infantry Badge. Upon his return home, he began a 22 year employment with Alsco before working for General Tire in Newcomerstown, and finally retired from the local coal mining industry. Throughout his life, he also worked his family farm which was a great joy to him. He was a member of American Legion Post #0431, a Life Member of the Newcomerstown Elks, and a longtime member of the former Indian Springs Ruritan.

On July 19, 1974, he married the former Linda Kay Wells who survives him, as well as children, Dorothy Anderson, Tim (Teresa) Glauser, Bea (Bob) Donato, Mark (Carol Jones) Glauser, Sandi (Lainard) Gray, Kim Jackson, Dawn (Ty) Bricker, Scott Glauser, and Tammi Glauser; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren with two more expected; a great-great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews; a favorite cousin, Homer Schwab; his lifelong best friend, Ralph Miller; and dear canine companion, Telio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Gladys Burrier, Charles Glauser, Dorothy Lockett, and Oliver Glauser.

Services, officiated by Pastors Bob Donato and Jim McConnell, will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 26, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow with a military committal service in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8pm on Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
