Virginia "Ginny Kay" Rimer

April 22, 1944 — November 25, 2014

Virginia “Ginny Kay” Rimer, 70, of Dennison, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia after a courageously fought 13-year battle with cancer. Born April 22, 1944 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Joseph G. and Mary F. (Civiello) Ross. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Carmela Creager.

Ginny Kay was a Twin City resident for most of her life, a 1962 graduate of St. Mary’s High School, and a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church and its Altar Society. She was an active volunteer with the Tuscarawas County Catholic churches and schools and will be remembered as the inspiration for the Rimer Rosary bracelets which raised funds and awareness for multiple cancers. She was an avid reader. She was an administrative assistant for the Tuscarawas County court system and the Ohio State courthouse before her long career serving the Columbus Diocese as a secretary at St. Theresa’s Church in Wainwright and, most recently, Holy Trinity Church in Zoar. Ginny Kay will be deeply missed by the countless people whose lives she touched, as she never knew a stranger.

On June 17, 1973, Ginny Kay married Richard E. Rimer who survives her. She is also survived by her sons: Scott Rimer of Dennison, Thadd (Prue) Rimer of Melbourne, Australia, and Aaron Rimer of Dennison; a grandchild who is expected in May; sister, Josephine Benedetto; brother, Rusty (Liz) Jones; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; aunts, Polly Pifer and Yula Zeno; uncle, Guido Civiello; and her beloved Shelties: Quincy, Wallace, and Dexter.

Services, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 10am on Monday, December 1, in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Visitation will be 2pm to 5pm on Sunday in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison with a Christian Wake Service held at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice and the Virginia Rimer Memorial Scholarship Fund at Tuscarawas Central Catholic Junior and Senior High School.
