Virginia R. Poland, 93, of Uhrichsville, passed away on January 16, 2015 at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia. Born May 24, 1921 in Tuscarawas County’s Rush Township, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Esther (Hicks) Helter.
Virginia was a 1940 graduate of Uhrichsville High School and was employed by the former Ben Franklin Store, Helter Coal Company and Tusco Manufacturing in her younger years. She was known for being an excellent cook, having prepared many wonderful meals for her family. She attended Newport United Methodist Church.
On September 16, 1944, Virginia married Robert L. Poland who preceded her in death on March 25, 1986. She is survived by a sister, Norma Jean Edwards of Uhrichsville; nieces and nephews, Gary Edwards, Debra (Greg) Strickmaker, Freddie (Kathy) Edwards, Jack (Brenda) Foltz, and Doug Dunlap; and many great-nieces and great-nephews, including Robert Dunlap with whom she was especially close. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Joyce Dunlap and Geraldine Foltz.
Services for Virginia, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Association.
