Virginia L. "Ginny" Malterer

February 5, 1939 — March 19, 2015

Virginia Louise “Ginny” Malterer, 76, of Uhrichsville, was called home to Heaven on Thursday, March 19, 2015, from Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison, after a lengthy illness. Born February 5, 1939 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Walter “Buck” and Mary I. (Jones) Hyde.

Ginny was a lifelong resident of Uhrichsville and a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in 1957. She spent over 25 years as a secretary for Haddad & Brooks, and her family is deeply grateful that Jerry Hopkins and Jim Cropp at Haddad & Brooks enabled her to continue her employment with them until her passing. She was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Uhrichsville where her husband is the pastor. An accomplished musician, she played the piano and organ for church services, as well as playing the accordion for several area bands in the 50s and 60s. Above all else, Ginny loved caring for her family. She was blessed in the domestic arts and will be lovingly remembered for her wonderful cooking, especially her pies and homemade jellies. She also loved gardening, starting her plants from seed each year, and canning the bounty her efforts produced, as well as enjoying her beautiful flowers. She was a talented seamstress who made beautiful quilts and clothing, all of which she did with a passion born of her deep love for her family.

On March 22, 1959, Ginny married Larry W. Malterer who survives her at their home. She is also survived by her son, Jeffrey W. (Penny) Malterer of Tippecanoe; grandchildren, Sarah E. and Ian M. Malterer of Tippecanoe; a nephew, Timothy (Jill) Hodge of Florida; and her devoted caregivers, Scherie Clough and Sandy Barcus. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her dear friend, Phyllis Stalnaker.

Services for Ginny, officiated by Pastor Bob Mathias and Rev. John W. Clark, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, in Grace United Methodist Church in Uhrichsville. Interment will follow in Greenmont Cemetery in Freeport. Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church.
