Virginia M. Berni, 98, of Dennison was called home to the Lord on September 25, 2016 at Claymont Health & Rehabilitation Center, formerly known as Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville. Born March 17, 1918 she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Angela (Castonato) Tomasina.
Virginia was a 1936 St. Mary’s graduate. Her joy for cooking reflected in her life as she was head cook for St. Mary’s school for over 40 years and has also worked for Bonvechio’s Restaurant, Buckeye Confection and City Auto and owned and operated Joe Berni Grocery with her husband, Joseph Michael Berni whom she married on November 16, 1940. She also had been a housekeeper for the parish rectory. She was one of the oldest living members of Immaculate Conception Church and was a member of the Altar Society.
Her surviving family includes, sons, Jim (Betty) Berni and Joseph (April) Berni; a daughter, Marie (Robert) Eberle; 7 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joseph who preceded her in death on July 7, 2003, she is also preceded in death by a grandson, Todd Eberle; brother, Tony Tomasina and many sisters- and brothers-in law.
Father Tyron Tomson will celebrate the funeral Mass on Wednesday, September 28 at 10am in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison beside her beloved husband. Visitation will be 5-8pm on Tuesday in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, concluding with a 7:45pm Christian Wake Service. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church and St. Mary’s School.
