Viola Ferne Goulden

Viola Ferne Goulden, 82, of Westchester, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Schoenbrunn Healthcare Center. Born November 18, 1926 at Moorefield, OH, she was a daughter of the late Sherman and Jennie (Hamilton) McKibben. A longtime resident of the Westchester area, Ferne was a 1944 graduate of the former Freeport School.

Ferne devoted her life to her family as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and homemaker. Ferne enjoyed tending to her flowers, helping work the family farm, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored. Ferne was a lover of animals and they gave her great joy over the years.

On September 18, 1946, Ferne married Richard Wayne Goulden who survives her. The couple would have celebrated sixty three years of marriage together later this month. In addition to her husband, Ferne’s surviving family include two sisters, Esther Eberhart of Cadiz and Helen Wells of Freeport; three grandchildren, Melanie and husband Jim Johnson of Uhrichsville, Michael Goulden of Rochester, PA, and Benjamin Goulden of Louisville, OH; three great grandchildren, Eddie and Andy Johnson of Uhrichsville and Dennis Goulden of Rochester, PA; two daughters-in-law, Linda Goulden of Uhrichsville and Becky Goulden of Louisville, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ferne was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Goulden; two brothers, Sherman McKibben, Jr. and Ernie McKibben.

Services for Ferne, officiated by Pastor Wayne Pratt, will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 11am in the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Internment will follow at Freeport Greenmont Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at visitation on Monday, September 14, 2009 from 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home.
