Verna Lou Stoner

Verna Lou Stoner, 86, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover after a period of declining health. Born September 27, 1926 in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late William Portner and Edna Grace (Peffley) Stoner.

A 1944 graduate of Uhrichsville High School, Verna earned her Bachelor’s degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio before obtaining her Masters degree. She was a buyer for Lazarus in Columbus for many years and taught retail marketing at a business college in Columbus, as well. She loved spending time with her sisters, especially when they would travel together.

Verna is survived by her sister, Eloise Marie Stoner of the home; special friends, Ray and Sally Cottrell of Uhrichsville; and a number of cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Thyra Oleen Stoner.

A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Mark Unrue will be held on Saturday, February 23, at 1:00 p.m. in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will be with her beloved parents and sister in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from noon until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
