Travis James Ridenour, 21, of Dennison, Ohio, died Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio as a result of injuries he tragically sustained at his home. Travis leaves a legacy of selflessness as he had chosen to be an organ donor which will help others to live longer and better lives. Born December 3, 1989 in Cambridge, Ohio, he was a son of Richard James “Rick” Ridenour with whom he had resided and Ruth Ann (Mallarnee) Ridenour of New Philadelphia.
A resident of Tuscarawas County for most of his life, Travis was a 2008 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and was currently in his fourth year at Kent State University at Tuscarawas where he was a Dean’s List student in the Mechanical Engineering Department. He was gifted with the intelligence and innate skills to be a natural inventor, and he loved tinkering, building and fixing things. He was happiest when he was working on cars and motorcycles, and he enjoyed doing wood working and metal working. He especially enjoyed riding his dirt bike and four wheeler. Travis lived life to the fullest and will be remembered for his loving and generous spirit.
He is survived by two sisters, Ashley Ridenour and Shelby Dine of New Philadelphia; his father, Rick Ridenour and his fiancée, Amy Shaw, and her daughter, McKenzie Shaw of Newark; his mother, Ruth Ann Ridenour; his paternal grandmother, Sharon Risley of Uhrichsville; his maternal grandparents, Paul and Nancy Mallarnee of Freeport; uncles and aunts, Jeffrey and Melanie Ridenour of Hilliard, Paula and Robert Cox, III of Massillon, Susan Cox of Amsterdam, and Connie Gardner of Freeport; many cousins; and a host of dear friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James F. Ridenour.
Services for Travis, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions to honor Travis’ memory may be sent to his father, Rick Ridenour, 9646 S.R. 250 S.E., Dennison, OH 44621 who is establishing a scholarship fund in Travis’ name for a student from New Philadelphia High School planning to study engineering.
