Thyra O. Stoner, 90, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at New Dawn Retirement Community in Dover, O., after a brief battle with cancer.
Born October 23, 1920 in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late William Portner and Edna Grace (Peffley) Stoner.
Thyra was a 1938 graduate of Uhrichsville High School and a 1940 graduate of Capital University in Columbus, O. before earning her Masters Degree from Columbia University in New York City. She was an educator for Parma Junior High Schools for many years and had also taught high school in Newcomerstown and Dennison. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
Thyra is survived by her two sisters, Eloise Marie Stoner and Verna Lou Stoner, both of the home; many dear cousins; and special friends, Ray and Sally Cottrell of Uhrichsville. She loved travel and especially enjoyed the many winter trips she made to Florida with her sisters.
Services for Thyra, officiated by Rev. Mike Foran, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery with her parents.
Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
