Thomas A. Collins, 54, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio after a lengthy illness. Born November 3, 1956 in Dennison, Ohio, he was a son of the late Robert Thomas and Marjorie Irene (Bache) Collins.
Tom was a graduate of Claymont High School in the class of 1975 and a member of Dennison Church of God. After high school, he worked for the local railroad industry before moving to South Carolina where he resided for a number of years. In 2000, he returned to the community of his youth and was employed by Berner Trucking.
Tom’s surviving family includes his son, Christopher Collins of Strasburg; grandchildren, Kendan Mikael and Nadia Berlin Collins; brothers, John T. Collins and his wife, Lori, of Dennison and Charles W. Collins of Akron; brother- and sister-in-law, Tim and Pam King of Dover; nieces, Brittney Collins of Hilliard, Kayla King of Dover, and Lyndi Donley of Beach City; nephew, Travis Collins of Dennison; and great nephews, Connor and Dillon Donley of Beach City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kristie Collins.
In keeping with Tom’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation or service. Private family services were held. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice, in lieu of flowers.
