Thomas Merlin Akins, Sr.

Thomas Merlin Akins, Sr., 81, of Uhrichsville passed away at his home on December 10, 2018. Born May 21, 1937 in Akron, Ohio he was a son of the late Merlin Howard and Grace Elizabeth (Galehouse) Akins.

Tom was a member of Good Guys, Lincoln Zephyr Owners Club, and Lincoln Continental Owners Club. He was also a member of Feed Spring Church.

On March 2, 1957 he married the former Joan Cecilia Coomes who survives him. He is also survived by his children, Thomas M. Akins, Jr., John M. Akins, Tracy M. (Cheryl) Akins, Troy M. Akins, Tim M. (Pat) Akins, and Jann M. (Gary) Bales; son-in-law, John Gibson; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Terry (Sharon) Akins; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter, Joanie Marie Gibson.

In keeping with Tom’s wishes he has donated his body to the Ohio State University Body Donor Program for science research. A memorial service will be held at Uhrichsville First Presbyterian Church on January 5, 2019 at 3:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to Christians United for Israel in care of John Hagee.
