Teresa Ann Abbuhl, 63, of Shreve, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022, at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, after a lengthy struggle with heart conditions. Born December 12, 1958 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Schaffer and Dorothy May (Melville) Mercer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Jo Mercer and Linda Lee Rennicker.
A resident of Shreve since 1994, Teresa grew up in the Twin City area where she was a member of Claymont High School’s Class of 1977, as well as a member of the first graduating class from Buckeye J.V.S. that year. She then earned a degree from Point Park College in 1979 and later her Associates Degree from the University of Akron in 2000, preparing her for her career in business with Handy Harmon, Rittman Paper Board and Gertenslager Company. Most recently, she had worked in a field aligned with her passion for rescue dogs, as she secured funding for Second Chances for Blind Dogs. Along with her husband, she was also very active with Almost Home Dog Rescue of Ohio and Northeast Ohio Shetland Sheepdog Rescue, having fostered and rescued over 55 dogs through the years, eventually adopting many of them.
On September 5, 1981, Teresa married Charles R. “Chuck” Abbuhl who survives her along with their daughters, Stevie Rockhold and Candice Abbuhl, and granddaughter, Keira Rockhold. Teresa is also survived by her sisters, Vickie Lynn Ezzi and Kimberly Sue (John) Kleski, as well as her nephew and niece, Drew Schaffer Mercer and Chastity Howard.
According to Teresa’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation or service. Her family will celebrate her life privately.
