Stephen Jay Johnson, 61, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Aultman Hospital in Canton. Born December 28, 1954 in Dennison, he was a son of Leta Carrol (Shinaberry) Johnson of Dennison and the late Rev. Albert J. “A.J.” Johnson, Jr.
Steve was a 1973 graduate of Claymont High School before beginning his long career as a union pipefitter, having worked for Arizona Chemical (the former Union Camp) for over 30 years. A member of the International Chemical Workers Local #20C and various other unions since his teens, he was a dedicated and hard-working employee. In his spare time, he loved completing home projects and had also volunteered as an Indian Valley Pee Wee Football coach. Steve was also a Cleveland sports fan and a diehard Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Steve was most proud of his sons and grandchildren with whom he loved to spend time.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by sons, Aaron (Erin) Johnson of New Philadelphia, Jeremiah (Katy) Johnson of Bolivar, and Joshua (Tonya) Johnson of Dennison; grandchildren, Blake Bollon and Sakari, Landen, Trace, Karson, Karmen, Brody and Bryler Johnson; siblings, Mark (Loretta) Johnson and Hollie (Randy) Reichman; and many dear extended family members including nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Albert Johnson, III, as well as his father.
Services, officiated by Pastor Mick Foster, will be held at 1pm on Saturday, November 26, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison with visitation from 11am to 1pm on Saturday. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
