Stella M. Kozell

Stella M. Kozell, 91, of Gnadenhutten, Ohio, formerly a longtime resident of the Uhrichsville and Stillwater area, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio while surrounded by her loving family. Born October 17, 1919 in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Misharz) Stanco.

On June 30, 1941, Stella married John Paul Kozell with whom she enjoyed nearly forty-two years of marriage until his passing on May 4, 1983. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and homemaker who loved gardening and flower pressing, cooking, sewing, and caring for her family, especially her grandchildren who were the light of her life. Stella and John are survived by three daughters, Mrs. David (Kathleen R.) Jones of Dennison, Mrs. Fred (Shirley) Nye of Stonecreek, and Mrs. Robert (Jody L.) Dewalt of Uhrichsville; seven grandchildren, Karen (Jones) Frey, Robin (Jones) Heslop, Melissa (Nye) Zenoby, Steven Nye, Kari Vandine, Matt Vandine, and Bobby Dewalt; and nine great grandchildren, Morgan and Jordan Frey, Kayla, Hunter and Colton Heslop, Gabrielle Zenoby, Dominick and Deackon Miller, and Madison Vandine.

The last of her family’s generation, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Fred, Mike and Frank Stanco; sisters, Helen Rocyna and Rose Stanco; and three infant sisters, in addition to her parents and husband.

Services for Stella, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Greenmont Union Cemetery in Freeport, Ohio, but due to inclement weather, her committal service will be held at the funeral home instead of at the graveside. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
