Sophia P. Schick

Sophia P. Schick, 87, a resident of Country Club Retirement Center at Dover, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011. Having lived briefly in Gnadenhutten, Sophia spent the majority of her life on Staten Island, NY. Born June 24, 1923 in Newark, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Gemino and Constantina (Cuenca) Pablos.

A lifelong homemaker, Sophia was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Following her graduation from Demarest High School, Sophia attended Business College. Sophia was a very active member of the New Dorp Moravian Church on Staten Island and enjoyed traveling and camping with her family. Sophia’s involvement with her granddaughters was a source of great joy to her, and she was a strong advocate for their educational pursuits.

On June 14, 1947, Sophia married Walter Schick, and the couple shared sixty years of marriage until his passing in 2007. Following her marriage, Sophia moved with her husband to Staten Island from Northern New Jersey. Sophia’s surviving family includes daughter Naomi and husband Michael Foran of Uhrichsville; son Paul W. Schick of Madison, WI; and granddaughters Chelsea and husband John Drubel and Anna Foran.

In addition to her parents, Sophia was preceded in death by a sister, Efigenia Molina.

According to her wishes, Sophia will be cremated with no viewing or services to be held, and then inurned next to her late husband.

Sophia’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to everyone at Country Club Retirement Center for their wonderful care and for lovingly helping her to come to terms with her final stage of life.

Those wishing to honor Sophia’s memory with a memorial contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of one’s choice.
