Shirley J. Waldron, 69, of New Philadelphia, was called home to the joy of heaven on January 27, 2014. While her family and friends will miss her deeply, they rejoice in the knowledge that she has been made new in His love, ran to Jesus and is now safe in His arms.
Shirley was born on November 21, 1944 in Dayton, Maryland, the daughter of the late Hardy and Dorothy (Johnson) Hungerford. After her graduation from high school, she attended Bible College and was Pentecostal by faith. In 2006, she retired from her career in the medical supply industry and moved to New Philadelphia to be closer to her children. Shirley was an avid poker player, and shortly after her retirement, she drove her convertible (with the top down for every single mile) to Las Vegas to compete in the World Series of Poker. She also enjoyed playing Bingo.
Shirley is survived by a daughter, Lori (Jeff) Lindamood of Uhrichsville; a son, Dean (LaDonna) Waldron of Bolivar; grandchildren, Bruce (Randall) Fox, Mark (Mallory) Fox, Nicole (Bob) Dorsey, Chance Waldron, Storm AJ Waldron, Ace LaRue Waldron, Kate (Troy) Thompson and Valerie (Richard) Thompson; great-grandchildren, Cadence, Madison, Ella, Cecelia, Gage and Ryan; brothers, Tom (Shirley) Hungerford of Maryland and Bob (Sheila) Hungerford of Richmond, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends, especially the women from her bible study group who were such a wonderful support.
Services for Shirley, officiated by Pastor Rod Phillips, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 30, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Those wishing to honor Shirley’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
