Shirley Ann Price, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home near Dennison at the age of 90. Born April 5, 1936 in Mineral City, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Emmert Swinford and Edna Susan (née Martin) Swinford Norris.
On October 25, 1952, Shirley married the love of her life, James Darrell Price with whom she was looking forward to celebrate 74 years of loving marriage this fall. He survives her at their home, along with their daughter, Renée D. Goodwin. Shirley is also survived by their granddaughter, Sara (partner, Bob Specht) Kenosky, with whom she enjoyed countless happy hours (and sometimes ornery adventures) over the years; an honorary grandson, Daniel Busby; great-granddaughter, Katrina (husband, Wyatt) Hines and honorary great-granddaughter, Heidi Tristano; great-great-granddaughters, Olive and Willow Hines; and honorary great-great-grandson, Atlas Mosca. In addition to her parents, she was deeply grieved to have lost three sons, James Darrell Price Jr., Mark Lynn Price, and Gregory Eugene Price.
Shirley’s family was always foremost in her mind and her heart, and she truly delighted in caring for them. She was an excellent cook with an extensive collection of cookbooks. In their younger years, Shirley and Jim had raced cars together, and later they settled into more laidback hobbies like seeking out treasures at yard sales – a favorite pastime for them both, especially when their girls could go with them. Shirley was a lifelong member of the Order of Eastern Star. She had resided in Tuscarawas County for much of her life with the exception of a decade in Ocala, Florida until returning to Dennison in 1997 to spend more time with their family here.
In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, she will be cremated without a public visitation, and her family will celebrate her life privately. She requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in lieu of flowers.
