Shirley A. Leggett, 74, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville, following a lengthy illness.

Born June 17, 1935 in Gilmore, O., she was a daughter of the late Warner and Mollie Margaret (Edwards) Huston.

A lifelong resident of the area, Shirley was a graduate of Port Washington High School in the class of 1954 and a member of West Union United Methodist Church.

On May 22, 1954, she married John L. “Jack” Leggett with whom she celebrated fifty-five years of marriage this past spring. Her other surviving family includes her son, Steve Leggett and his wife, Sonja, of Leesville; three grandsons, Steve Leggett and his wife, Tamara, Tyson Leggett and Trent Leggett; two great grandchildren, Courtney and Brandon Leggett; a brother, Paul Huston and his wife, Judy, of Gilmore; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Hartline, and a brother, John Huston.

Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a skilled seamstress who loved sewing for her family and friends. Shirley was also devoted to her dear feline companions of many years and enjoyed collecting Siamese cat figurines which she found at the many antique shops and flea markets she visited with her husband.

Services for Shirley, officiated by Pastor Beth Mansperger, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will be in West Union Cemetery near Gilmore with a graveside service held at a later date. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Alzheimer’s Association.
