Shirley L. Davis

Shirley Loretta Davis, 93, of Dennison, passed away at her home while surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 24, 2022. Born January 14, 1929 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Rosie L. (Cox) Medler.

Shirley lived her entire life in Dennison and was a 1947 graduate of Dennison High School. She was working at Eiler’s Candy Store in Dennison when she met James Presley Davis, Jr. whom she married on December 31, 1948. They enjoyed over 41 years of marriage before his passing in April of 1990 and are survived by two sons, Mike (Gail) Davis and Patrick John Davis; son-in-law, Tom (Tammie) Weaver; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Davis; grandchildren, Allen Weaver, Aaron (Cindy) Weaver, Sarah Davis, Billie Jo (Tom) Kelley, Nicole Davis, and Emily Davis; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Baker, Noah Turney, Lukas and Lexee Kelley, Khaleesi Dedrick, and Aaron and Olivia Weaver; nephew, James Dallas (Vilma) Medler; and great-nephews, Jack and Jonah Medler. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her son, James “Tim” Davis; daughter, Cynthia Weaver; great-grandson, Jackson Weaver; and brother, James Medler.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. Shirley loved cooking and baking, and she will be remembered for her delicious homemade creations. She had also worked for Gasser Dairy in Uhrichsville for a number of years. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and was a volunteer at Twin City Hospital in Dennison.

Tom Weaver will officiate a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 28, at Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery where she will be interred beside her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
