Shirley Marie Grose, 74, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Union Hospital in Dover, O., following an extended illness.

Born May 9, 1935 in Hopedale, O., she was a daughter of the late Robert Lewis and Martha Ann (Parks) Kersey.

Shirley was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Hopedale High School in the class of 1952. She was a longtime member of Uhrichsville Moose Lodge #740 where she had served as the chaplain of the ladies’ auxiliary for many years and was a Golden Moose Member. She enjoyed attending football, baseball and softball games, playing cards, and especially her weekly bingo outings.

Shirley was the wife of Jack McKinley Grose who preceded her in death in 1994. She was also a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who delighted in the time that she spent with her family.

Her surviving family includes eight children: Charles Henry (Diane) Robinson, Jr. of Gnadenhutten, Martha (Lou) Marbais of Conway, S.C., Susan Irene (Donald) Cross of New Philadelphia, Donna (Johnney) Myers of Bellaire, O., Marvin Louis Robinson, Jacqueline “Jackie” (Peter) Poole and Paul (Trudi) Robinson of Kimbolton, and Bobbie Jo (Bill) Western of Uhrichsville; twenty-four grandchildren; and thirty-eight great grandchildren with two more expected.

She is also survived by two sisters: Roberta (Robert) Pratt of Hopedale and Sue (Mike) Crisco of Delaware; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Rae Robinson; three grandchildren: Lisa Renee Elliott, Bruce Edward Elliott, Jr., and Rebeca Eileen Jo Elliott; a brother, Robert Kersey, Jr.; five sisters: Hilda Snyder, Doris Ward, Janet Silva, Penny Kersey, and Sarah Kersey; and her first husband, Charles H. Robinson.

In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, she has been cremated without a public visitation. A celebration of her life, officiated by the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Uhrichsville Moose, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, in the Uhrichsville Moose Family Center. Her family will receive callers beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Those wishing to honor Shirley’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Shirley Grose Benefit Fund (which benefits cancer research) at any Dover-Phila Federal Credit Union Branch, in lieu of flowers.
