Sarah Ellen Allensworth

Sarah Ellen Allensworth, 88, of New Philadelphia, formerly of Uhrichsville, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Community Hospice in New Philadelphia. Born August 28, 1927 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Russell Everett “R.E.” and Elizabeth Sarah (Enos) Roahrig.

On November 2, 1946, Sarah married Darrell Eugene Allensworth with whom she enjoyed over 64 years of marriage until his passing on January 16, 2011. They are survived by children, Darrell Allensworth, Gary Allensworth and Sally (Jim) O’Donnell, and grandchildren, Darrell J. and Christopher Allensworth and Jim and Heather O’Donnell. Sarah is also survived by her sisters, Catherine Clark, Virginia Porter, Phyllis Heil, JoAnn Garabrandt and Vonnie (John) Cox, and brother-in-law, Howard Clum. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond, Blaine, Robert and Byron Roahrig, and sisters, Joyce Clough and Vivian Roahrig.

A lifelong resident of the area, Sarah attended Dennison Schools through her junior year before graduating from Bowerston High School in 1945. She then worked at the Scio Pottery for a time before beginning her 54 year career with the former Tusco Manufacturing (now Tusco Display). She was proud to be a faithful employee there until her retirement on March 23, 2009 at the age of 81. She was a longtime member of Dennison Presbyterian Church. Above all else, Sarah was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the time that she spent with her family.

Services, officiated by Rev. Carolyn Behrendt and Pastor Brian Flood, will be held at noon on Saturday, March 12, in the Dennison Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church for an hour prior to the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to Dennison Presbyterian Church and Community Hospice.
