Sara Anna Galbraith Zimmerman, 93, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Amberwood Manor in New Philadelphia. Born December 2, 1922 in Harrison County, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Frank J. and Cora B. (Simpson) McKibben.
Sara had been a resident of New Philadelphia since 1980, having previously lived in Cambridge for over 14 years. While in Cambridge, she worked for 20 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the M.H. & M.R. Center until her retirement in 1987. She had also been a custodian for Gnadenhutten Schools for 8 years, as well as working for several area nursing homes. Sara loved being a nurse and proudly belonged to the L.P.N. Association’s Chapter 20 and the Nurses’ Christian Fellowship. She was a member of Living Waters Church in Uhrichsville who loved crocheting, gardening, animals and flowers. Above all else, she loved her boys and their wives, and dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a good neighbor and would always help anyone in need.
Twice widowed, Sara was preceded in death in 1955 by her first husband, Roscoe Galbraith, whom she married on June 18, 1941. Her second husband, Frederick Zimmerman whom she married on October 19, 1955, died on August 12, 1999 after nearly 44 years of marriage. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Bertha Boone and Verda Myers, and a step-granddaughter, Jennie Earl. Survivors include her sons, Russell (Judy) Galbraith and Wesley (Charlotte) Galbraith; stepson, David (Sherry) Zimmerman; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-great-grandchildren; sister, Carrie Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5-8pm on Thursday in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Pastor Larry Fletcher and Pastor Chris Atwood will officiate an 11 am service on Friday in the Living Waters Church in Uhrichsville with interment following in Greenmont Cemetery in Freeport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Living Waters Church of Uhrichsville.
