Sandra Jean Gatchell

January 26, 1939 — January 29, 2021

Sandra Jean Gatchell, 82, of Gnadenhutten, was called home to the Lord on Friday, January 29, 2021. Born January 26, 1939 in Newcomerstown, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Wayne and Hazel Maxine (Lindell) Walker.

A 1957 graduate of Conotton Valley High School, Sandra was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who also drove bus for Indian Valley Schools for 30 years. She was a longtime, faithful member of Countryside Baptist Church in Port Washington where she served her congregation as the church secretary for 30 years, as the organist for many years, and in a variety of the ladies’ ministries.

On June 7, 1959, she married Richard Eugene “Dick” Gatchell with whom she enjoyed over 60 years of marriage until his passing on December 10, 2020. She is survived by their children, Mike (Nancy) Gatchell, Brian (fiancée, Hope Johnson) Gatchell, and Kevin (wife, Jeanette, deceased) Gatchell; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Randy Walker and James Walker; sister, Barbara (Wayne) Page; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Aurelius “Ray-Ray” Gatchell.

In the interest of public health, a private, family service is planned. She will be interred in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery in Gnadenhutten beside her beloved husband. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice.
