Samuel M. Bonanno

November 2, 1927 — December 4, 2016

Samuel Bonanno, 89, of Uhrichsville, passed away on December 4, 2016, at Community Hospice in New Philadelphia from complications following surgery. He was a son of the late Phillip and Michelina (Rizzo) Bonanno, born in Dennison on November 2, 1927. He was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison and a 1945 graduate of St. Mary’s High School before joining the U.S. Army and serving in the Phillipines during World War II.

On April 24, 1952, Sam was married to the love of his life, the former Bertha Parson. They enjoyed 64 years together, vacationing in Myrtle Beach with their family, and many bus trips. He will be sadly missed by his wife and four children, Michael (Candy) Bonanno, Mark (Jill) Bonanno, Linda (Mike) Clouse, and Phillip (Pam) Bonanno. He had seven grandchildren, Heidi (Josh) Clark, Brenton (Kristina) Bonanno, Sheena (Jay) Kendall, Sammy (Calissa) Bonanno, Cody (Ashley) Bonanno, Zack (Linnea) Clouse, and Sabrina (Clay) Fellers; and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Butera, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his siblings, Ernest Bonanno, Rita Besozzi, and Antonette Chioda.

Sam was a wonderful husband and father, never missing any sporting event or activity. He and his son, Michael, coached Little League for many years with several championship seasons. He loved Notre Dame, having taken all his family there to celebrate his 80th birthday, and he loved to play Texas Hold’em. He was a member of the Uhrichsville Elks and the Daughters of Herman Club in Massillon.

Father Tyron Tomson will celebrate the funeral Mass at 10am on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Visitation will be 5-8 on Tuesday in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, concluding with a 7:45pm Elks Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
