Ruth P. Mencer, 76, of Coshocton, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge, Ohio after a lengthy illness. Born March 15, 1935 in Bethany, W. Va., she was a daughter of the late Robert James Claude and Frances Priscilla (Crow) Gatts.
On May 1, 1959, Ruth married Klines M. Mencer with whom she enjoyed nearly forty-four years of marriage until his passing on January 23, 2003. She devoted her life to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who loved caring for her family. She spent many happy times visiting with her family and friends, and especially enjoyed the time that she spent with her grandchildren. She also liked to listen to country and Gospel music, and she was an avid collector of Indian dolls and curios.
Ruth’s surviving family includes her eight children, Jim Gatts and his wife, Goldie, of Uhrichsville, Mary Mencer of Wainwright, Jane Sutton and her husband, Jim, of Roswell, Janet Beitzel of New Philadelphia, David Mencer and his wife, Rebekah, of Uhrichsville, Joanna Ohler of Wainwright, and John Mencer of Coshocton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Almack of Coshocton; a sister-in-law, Dolores Finnell of Coshocton; a brother-in-law, Francis Mencer of Coshocton; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, George Earl, John, and Bill Gatts.
Services for Ruth, officiated by Rev. Donald R. Dolick, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30. 2011 in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Coshocton County Memory Gardens at Coshocton. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable donation are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice.
