Ruth E. Hooker

d. April 23, 2009

Ruth E. Hooker of Uhrichsville, O., passed away at her home on Thursday, April 23, 2009. She was a daughter of the late Charles Harvey and Carrie Ethel “Ted” (Lint) Dietrich.

A resident of Uhrichsville for nearly all of her life, Ruth was a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in the class of 1938. After obtaining certification from the Columbus School of Cosmetology, Ruth was hired by the Cara Nome Cosmetics Company in New York City. She was given charge of a five state territory as a representative of the company, traveling to small communities to share the latest styles and trends in ladies’ cosmetics. Ruth had a gift for knowing how to bring out the beauty in her clients and surely brightened many a woman’s day during the long years of World War II.

After the war, Ruth, herself married a returning soldier, George L. Hooker, on her birthday, May 10, 1947 and they enjoyed nearly sixty years of marriage together until his passing on January 15, 2006. After her marriage, she left the cosmetics industry and devoted her life to her family as a loving wife, mother and homemaker who had also helped keep the books for her family’s business for a number of years.

Ruth and George are survived by a son, Bryce H. Hooker of Hilliard, O.; a daughter, Judy Patterson of Rutherforton, N.C.; three grandchildren, Beth, Kim and Randy; and five great grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by a niece, Deana Bailey, and a nephew, Carl Dietrich, with whom she had been very close.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian O. Hooker, and a brother, C. Harold Dietrich.

Ruth was a woman of many interests and many talents. She especially had a talent for discerning and appreciating beauty, which she put to good use while she was active in breeding and showing horses as a long time member of the Tri-State Horse Association and the American Saddlebred Horse Association.

In keeping with her wishes, Ruth has been cremated without a traditional visitation. Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, O. from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, for a time of sharing memories and celebrating Ruth’s life.
