Ruth M. Guthrie

Ruth M. Guthrie, 83, of Dennison, O., passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, O., following a brief illness.

Born October 14, 1925 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Ollie Otis and Grace Marie (Shaw) Rainsberger.

A lifelong resident of the area, Ruth attended Dennison High School. She was a member of the New Philadelphia Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and loved singing and playing her guitar.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Ruth had also worked at the Scio Pottery for several years.

On October 11, 1958, Ruth married William D. Guthrie, of the home, with whom she enjoyed over fifty years of marriage. They were blessed with two daughters, Rheda D. McCartney of Dover and Anita K. Tucker of New Philadelphia; a son, William L. Guthrie and his wife, Kimberly A., of Uniontown, O.; nine grandchildren, Tessia M. Perez of Canton, Wesley H. Perez of Fla., Sara E. McCartney of Dover, Tyler L., Casey D. and Bryce M. Guthrie of Uniontown, Chelsea E. Guthrie of New Philadelphia, and Dylan J. and Shaina N. Tucker of New Philadelphia; and three great grandchildren, Kaiden M. Guthrie and DeMarco H. and Annabella M. Perez.

Ruth is also survived by two sisters, Hazel B. Patterson of New Philadelphia and L. Kay Allison and her husband, Robert, of Van Wert, O. and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by two brothers, Foster E. Rainsberger and George J. Rainsberger.

Services for Ruth will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2009 at the New Philadelphia Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, President John R. Center presiding, Bishop Brent Meek conducting. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. Those wishing to honor Ruth’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice.
