Ruth W. Doughty

Ruth W. Doughty, 88, of Dennison, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, January 21, 2009. Born September 15, 1920 at Nixon’s Run, OH, she was a daughter of the late Ebart and Rosaltha (Donley) Schwender. Before moving to our area, Ruth had attended Martins Ferry School.

Ruth devoted her life to her family as a loving homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was raising her children and adoring over all of her grandchildren. Ruth enjoyed dining out and could never pass up a yard sale. With her constant smile, Ruth never met a stranger and always carried herself with a delicate elegance, while remaining tough as nails when she needed to be. Ruth was a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witness at Uhrichsville.

On June 30, 1936, Ruth married George Henry Doughty who preceded her in death on February 14, 1993. Ruth’s surviving family include, 2 daughters, Judy and husband David Garabrandt of Uhrichsville and Diane Antonacci of Toledo; 2 sons, Larry Doughty of Marion and Furber and wife Amber Doughty of Dennison; 3 sisters, Eleanor Bice of Pennsylvania, Evelyn Hartung of Bridgeport, OH, and Grace Lannum of California; several very special grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by 2 sons, George E. and L. Gene Doughty; grandson Johnny Doughty; great-granddaughter Margie Christensen and an infant great-grandchild; and 4 brothers, Edwin, Eugene, Harold, and Arthur Schwender.

Services for Ruth, officiated by Stuart Caudill, will be held Monday, January 26, 2009 at 1:00 pm in the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Internment will follow at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville. Family and friends are invited to call at visitation from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Monday, January 26, 2009 at the funeral home.
