Ruth J. Bricker

Ruth J. Bricker, 87, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Country Club Retirement Center in Dover, Ohio after a period of declining health. Born December 20, 1924 in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Frances Thelma (Gray) Henry.

A graduate of Uhrichsville High School in the class of 1942, Ruth was a lifelong resident of the Twin City area. Although most of her life was devoted to caring for her family, she also worked for the Timken Co. in New Philadelphia for a time. During World War II, while her husband was stationed overseas, she worked for Burger Aircraft on the homefront. Ruth enjoyed gardening and canning, as well as playing the piano, organ and Hawaiian guitar, having played at the Coal Festival and for local Granges. She especially loved to crochet and would proudly tell you that she’d crocheted 38 tablecloths, 8 bedspreads, 18 pairs of curtains, and thousands of doilies, at last count.

On March 21, 1943, she married Charles Leo Bricker with whom she enjoyed over sixty-three years of marriage until his passing on December 3, 2006. They are survived by their son, Ty W. Bricker and his wife, Dawn, with whom Ruth had lived recently; grandchildren, Tony, Maci Jane, Emily Dawn and Kayla; great-grandchildren, Emily Sue and Zach, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Irene Henry of Uhrichsville; a brother-in-law, Michael “Mickey” Bricker of Florida; and many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Dixie. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Cody Wayne Bricker and Zachary Leatherman; a brother, Arthur Henry, Jr.; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Shirley Henry.

In keeping with Ruth’s wishes, she has been cremated without a public visitation. A graveside service, officiated by Rev. Harry Milligan, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice.
