Russell Carl Cox, 87, of Uhrichsville passed away on November 18, 2018 at Amberwood Manner in New Philadelphia. Born April 18, 1931 in Elton, West Virginia he was a son of the late Jesse L. and Opal M. (Gwinn) Cox. On May 24, 1961 he married Linda A. (Edwards) Cox who preceded him in death in 1995. He was also preceded in death by a son, Matthew; siblings Ernest, Emery, Homer, David, Clifford and Alva Cox; and a son-in-law, Mel Petry.
Carl attended Crichton Schools in West Virginia and was a truck driver for Brown Lumber Co. Carl was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed taking long car drives as well as working on cars. He cherished the time he spent with his family. The most important thing in his life was his relationship with Jesus Christ, and it served as a model for all who knew him.
Surviving family includes his children, Kathy (Petry) (Bill) Theiss, Betty (Joe) Martin, Chuck (Sue) Cox, Judy (Bill) Ervin, Suzanne Cox, and Diane Claire; grandchildren, Curtis (Eden) Whitehead, Judy May (John) Porter, Linda (Jim) Randolph, William Ervin, Cayla (D.J.) Nichols, Cody (Meghan) Cox, Nathanael (Jamie) Petry, Jacob Petry, Misti (Adam) Johns, Mackenzi (Matt) DeMattio, Seth (Josie) Cox; siblings, Mary Petitt, Marie (Nelson) Phillipi, Bob (Phamey) Cox, Dallas (Mavis) Cox, and Alice McConnell; 19 great grandchildren with 2 more expected; 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for Carl, officiated by Pastor John Stevenson will be at 1PM on Friday at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Burial will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held three hours prior from 10 AM, to 1 PM. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Bethel Worship Center or Community Hospice.
