Ruby Mae Bloom

Ruby Mae Bloom, 97, of Uhrichsville, passed away at Schoenbrunn Healthcare in New Philadelphia on March 11, 2018, after a period of declining health. Born August 14, 1920 in Sidman, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late John and Alice (Davis) Smay.

Ruby was the loving wife of Alpheus Harold “Pap” Bloom who preceded her in death on July 24, 1984; a devoted mother to Richard L. (Kay) Bloom of Dennison and Betty J. Minich of Pittsburgh, and Thomas Bloom, Larry Ray Bloom, George “LZ” Bloom and Sandra Burdette who preceded her in death; and a doting grandmother to Tammy, Harold, Sonya, Tonda, Shauna, Heather, Richard Jr., Lisa, Tara, Brian, David Jr., Crystal, Leslie, Lori, Raymond II, and Bernard. She is also survived by her many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, David Burdette; brother, James Smay of Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, husband, and 4 children, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Edward Minich, and 11 siblings.

A Twin City resident since 1946, she was a longtime member of Dennison First Presbyterian Church and Navy Mothers of America. A member of the Newport Sewing Club, Ruby loved quilting and had made a quilt for each of her children, as well as for her grandchildren. She also loved to do crafts, especially doing plastic canvas.

Services for Ruby, officiated by Rev. Carolyn Behrendt, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2018 in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will be beside her beloved husband in Mt. Hope Cemetery in South Fork, Pennsylvania. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
