Roy M. Fisher, 88, of Dennison, O., died Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Union Hospital in Dover, O, surrounded by his family, following a period of declining health.
Born July 24, 1921 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Jacob W. and Carrie C. (Green) Fisher.
A lifelong resident of Twin Cities area, he attended Uhrichsville High School and was a longtime member of the former Grant Street United Methodist Church. Roy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, having fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
After returning from the war, Roy worked in the area clay industry for a number of years. He later worked for Perma Glas-Mesh Corp. for many years, retiring as a plant supervisor and quality control manager in 1986. In his spare time, he loved golf and fishing.
On July 24, 1943 in Baton Rouge, La., Roy married the former Evelyn I. Willard who survives him. He is also survived by a son, James A. “Jim” Fisher and his wife, Sue, of Dennison; three granddaughters, Leslie Ann Love and her husband, Travis, of Sherrodsville, Jennifer Wallace and her husband, Robert “Bub”, of Dennison, and Kari Abel and her husband, Bill, of Dennison; seven great grandchildren, Camille, Corra, and Carter Elizabeth Love, Averi, Hannah, Kendyl, and Kole Wallace, with another great granddaughter, Hadley Abel, expected; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Fisher of Arlington, Tx.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jane Ann Fisher, and a brother, Jack Fisher.
Services for Roy, officiated by Rev. Mark Unrue, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Those wishing to honor Roy’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice.
