Ronald L. Wilson

Ronald Lee “Speedy” Wilson, age 74, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away in his home on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, after a lengthy illness.

Born February 6, 1936 to the late Robert L. and R. Beatrice (Minor) Wilson, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Wilson, and sister-in-law, Hilda (DePeter) Land Wilson.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Ron served during the Cuban Conflict. He retired from Joy Manufacturing/Howden-Buffalo in New Philadelphia, where he had worked for thirty-two years. Ron lived in Uhrichsville for much of his life and was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Uhrichsville and a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in the class of 1954. He was also a member of the Uhrichsville Moose and Uhrichsville Eagles for many years.

Ron was an avid reader, enjoying books from westerns to sci-fi, and throughout his life loved painting signs, sketching, making wooden crafts, etching and cartooning. He also loved spending time with family and his beloved dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sarah E. (Ellwood) Wilson whom he married September 28, 1956, and a daughter Deborah Wilson of Dennison, O. Also surviving are two grandsons and their father: Brandon Coppin-Wilson and companion, Kayla Freeman, Kyle Wilson and companion, Hunter VanDyke, all of Dennison, O., and Mark Coppin of Pensacola, Fla.; two great grandson, Rysten and Tyson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Ron’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, at Uhrichsville First Christian Church with the Rev. Dr. Larry Miracle officiating. His family will receive callers at the church for an hour prior to the service.

Those wishing to honor Ron’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Hospice of Tuscarawas County and the Claymont Public Library.
