Ronald E. Heavlin

Ronald E. Heavlin, 83, passed away at his residence in Ruckersville, Virginia on August 12, 2025. He was born in Dennison, Ohio on January 14, 1942 and was the son of the late James Albert and Margaret Louvenia (Johns) Heavlin.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Carol S. “Kay” (Cookson) Heavlin, who died on December 12, 2019 at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was born in Dennison, Ohio on April 13, 1943.

Ron and Kay were married on September 23, 1962 at Grace Methodist Church on Third Street in Uhrichsville, Ohio. A short time later, they moved to base housing on the Norfolk, Virginia Naval Base.

They are survived by their son, Jeffrey Heavlin of Ruckersville, Virginia; daughter, Karen Litton of Greeneville, Tennessee; three granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and a great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ron is also survived by his sisters, Betty J. Hawkins and Joyce A. Keller of Uhrichsville, Ohio.

Ron served in the United States Marine Corps – where he earned the nickname “Rocky” – from 1962 to 1982 and served in the Viet Nam War. He received an honorable discharge and retired as a Master Sergeant. He also had worked for the Carrier Corporation as a service and parts manager.

Carol was a paralegal in Washington, DC for many years and then was an elementary school teaching assistant before retiring. She loved working with and helping the children very much.

Ron and Carol were kind, loving, and compassionate people. They were always there – without hesitation – to love, support, and assist their family, church, and anyone else who needed it.

Pastor Brett Warkentine will officiate a 3:00 p.m. graveside service on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Liberty Cemetery in Mill Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard will conduct a military committal at the beginning of the service.
