Ronald Dale West

Ronald Dale West, 65, of Bolivar, O., passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at the home of his daughter in Tuscarawas, O., following an extended illness.

Born September 1, 1943 in New Matamoras, O., he was a son of the late Denzil Bernard and Kathleen Marie (Salsberry) West.

A resident of Tuscarawas County for most of his life, Ron grew up in the Twin City area. At age seventeen, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country from 1960 to 1964 as a civil engineer who worked on projects such as the airstrip in Libya. Upon his return home from the service, he began working for Republic Steel in Massillon. He was employed by Republic Steel for thirty-six years until his retirement in 2001. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

He is survived by three children, Christine West of Frederickstown, O., Kenneth Dale West and his wife, Kathryn J. Struhar-West, of Dover, and Cheryl Lynn Stull and her husband, Don, of Tuscarawas; six grandchildren, Ian, Kayleigh, Cody, Nicole, Connor and Ashlynn; three siblings, Sue Devore of Uhrichsville, Bernard West and his wife, Karen, of Bowerston, and Loretta Black and her husband, Zookie, of Cambridge; an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Salsberry of New Matamoras; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services for Ron, officiated by Pastor Brian Flood, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow with a military committal service in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Those wishing to honor Ron’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Hospice of Tuscarawas County.
