Roger D. Dominick, 62, of Dennison, O., died on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, O., after a brief battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
Born August 21, 1947 in Canton, he was a son of the late Jasper W. “Bill” and Betty A. (Klotz) Dominick.
Roger was a graduate of Gnadenhutten High School in the class of 1965 before serving his country in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970. A resident of the Twin City area for most of his adult life, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison.
A tireless advocate for his community, Roger has served the Twin Cities in many capacities including as a longtime village councilman and as mayor from 1996 to 2004. He was current president of the Twin City Hospital Board, as well as a member of the Harcatus Board. In the past, he had served for a number of years on the Tuscarawas Central Catholic School Board, including a term as president, and had been a volunteer at Trumpet in the Land. In his spare time he enjoyed playing bass guitar and had reunited with his band the System in 2007. He had a thirty-five year career with Graphic Packaging International, Inc. (the former Stone Container Bag Corporation) where he was the environmental safety manager for the past twelve years.
Roger was a loving husband to his wife, Vicki (Ross) Dominick, whom he married on August 24, 1968, and a devoted father to his four children, Roger Charles Dominick of New Philadelphia, Valarie A. Nash and her husband, David, of Massillon, Gina M. Bannevich and her husband, Jason, of Canton, and Andrea L. Dominick of Dennison. He was also the proud grandfather of Victoria M. Nash, Margaret V. Dominick, Dominick J. Bannevich and Giavonna Bannevich.
His other surviving family includes a brother, Keith Dominick of Cleveland; two sisters, Charlena Hammel of New Philadelphia and Arlena J. Dominick of Sarasota, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Brown of Dennison and Sr. Wilma Ross of Columbus; a brother-in-law, Ronald J. Ross, Sr. and his wife, Donna, of Dennison; special nieces and nephew, Roseann, Margaret and Joe Bonamico; and many more dear nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Mike and Maggie Ross, and three brothers-in-law, Jeff Hammel, Joseph Bonamico and Rollie Brown.
Services for Roger, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 23, at Immaculate Conception Church. A private interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison at a later date.
Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service held at the close of calling hours.
Those wishing to honor Roger’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Immaculate Conception Church’s Memorial Book Fund and the Twin City Hospital Foundation, in lieu of flowers.
