Roger D. Arnold

November 20, 1948 — April 9, 2011

Roger D. Arnold, 62, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, April 9, 2011 after an illness of two years. Born November 20, 1948 in Dennison, Ohio, he was a son of the late C. Dale and Doris June (West) Arnold and a lifelong resident of Rush Township.

A member of the first graduating class from Claymont High School in 1966, Roger furthered his education at Belmont Technical College where he obtained his Auger and Mine Foreman License. He was employed by Valley Mining at Dennison for many years until his illness prevented him from continuing.

On November 1, 1974, he married the love of his life, Mary Ellen (Gordon) Arnold, with whom he enjoyed over thirty-six years of marriage. He is also survived by their six children, Brian (Janice) Arnold of Midvale, Greg (Kristi) Arnold of Uhrichsville, Lynnette (Bo) Weber of Uhrichsville, Jessica (Dale) Carothers of Dennison, Michelle Cadle of Uhrichsville, and Becky (Joey) Sickels of Uhrichsville; seventeen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Glenn (Norma) Arnold, Ed (Karen) Arnold, and Paul (Doris) Arnold of Uhrichsville; a sister, Shirley (Dave) Beckett of Freeport; numerous nieces and nephews; Barb Simon, “The Water Lady”, who brought Roger his special water on a daily basis whom he considered his guardian angel; and his faithful pets, Rambo and Shelby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, and a grandson, Cameron Dale Arnold.

Roger was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play softball and baseball, coaching Little League baseball, and serving as a 4-H Advisor who helped at the Tuscarawas County Fair. He pulled ponies for many years, and in his spare time, liked playing Bingo, mowing the grass on his John Deere, watching NASCAR, fishing, hunting, and rooting on his favorite team, the North Carolina Tarheels. He spent many happy times with his buddies from the mine when they would go out for breakfast together, and enjoyed his daily 4-wheeler rides.

Services for Roger, officiated by Pastor Rod Phillips, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Rush Church Cemetery near Uhrichsville. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his family, in care of the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, to help defray the cost of his final expenses.
