Rodney William Stephens, of Uhrichsville, Ohio – affectionately known as “Cork” by his family and friends – passed away at the age of 71 on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio. Born February 24, 1955 in Columbus, Ohio, he was a son of the late Arden Taylor and Julia Marie (née Sampson) Stephens.
Cork was a lifelong area resident and graduate of Indian Valley North High School. He worked for a number of area businesses over the years until retiring from NAPA Auto Parts in Dover where he had spent the latter part of his career. In his spare time, Cork loved gardening and took great pride in his flower beds.
He leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Kathy Stephens; grandchildren, Tessa, Melvin, Mathew, and Abbigail; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Nelva Stephens, Tom and Pattie Stephens, Lenza and Wendy Stephens, and Sally Stephens; numerous nieces and nephews; and his lifelong best friend, Gary. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Veda Stephens, Lloyd Stephens, Melvin Stephens, and Chester Stephens.
In keeping with Cork’s wishes, he will be cremated without a public visitation or service. His family plan to celebrate his life privately. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd. N.E., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
