Robert Leroy Palmer of Dover, Ohio, a proud centenarian, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Park Village Southside in New Philadelphia, Ohio – having attained the age of 100 years last fall. Born September 7, 1925 near Conotton, Ohio, he was a son of the late Francis Delbert and Florence Edna (Moore) Palmer.

A resident of Harrison County for most of his life, Bob had served his community as a Monroe Township Trustee for many years. He enjoyed a long career as a supervisor at Alsco Aluminum for over 30 years, before eventually retiring from American Excelsior. He truly loved his work, and in his free time, enjoyed raising horses.

He leaves behind his son, Dan (Pat) Palmer of New Philadelphia; stepson, Scott (Patty) Birney; step grandchildren, Taylor, Kayden, David, Grace, and Isaac; several step great-grandchildren; brother, Dale E. Palmer; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shelva (Davis) Birney Palmer; stepsons, Greg and David; stepdaughter, Lorie; and brothers, Earl M. and Larry R. Palmer.

According to Bob’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public service. His family will celebrate his life privately on a future date. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Ohio’s Hospice Foundation, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663 or their favorite charity, in lieu of flowers.
