Robert Gene Murphy, 69, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, passed away on July 12, 2025 following a brief illness. Born September 29, 1955 in Dennison, Ohio, he was a son of the late Harold Gene “Poody” Murphy.
After his 1974 graduation from New Philadelphia High School, Bob spent twenty years working at Pepsi Cola – first in production and later as a driver, becoming a member of the Teamsters. He retired early from Pepsi Cola and launched a new career as a self-employed real estate agent. Bob also enjoyed farming throughout his life.
An avid fisherman, Bob was a member of the Ten Horsepower Club and had served as the Weigh Master for over twenty years. He also enjoyed gardening. Most of all, he was a deeply devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished the time he spent with his family – especially his grandson, Dean. Most recently, Bob was a member of Jerusalem Church in New Philadelphia, having previously been a member of the former Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Dennison.
Bob leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Jessica E. and Keith Klingler; son, Ryan Murphy; grandson, Dean Klingler; and brother, Dave Murphy. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rebecca Jean (Granfell) Murphy on September 28, 2023 after being blessed with 46 years of loving marriage – having been wed on June 12, 1977.
Pastor Tom Hendershot will officiate a 1:00 p.m. funeral on Thursday, July 17, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. His family will receive callers from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, prior to the service. Charitable contributions honoring Bob’s memory may be made to Jerusalem Church, 1417 Stonecreek Rd., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
